The Pelican Bib Review and Giveaway

As a mom, it is always a hard chore to find a BPA/PVC/Phthalate free bib that doesn't leak, break, or come off easy!!  I was excited to try out The Pelican Bib because it promised all of the things that I wanted!!  I have to say moms, it succeeded!!!  The bib has an ergonomic shape to it and a firm "lip/beak" that actually works to catch all of the crumbs!!  I have found so many bib's that "claim" to catch the crumbs, but I can only think of two that actually live up to that claim!!  When you have a messy eater like myself, you need that feature!!

Happy girl eating her Cutie! :)
Here is the awesome fastener at the top of the bib!  Looking at it, it looks like it would slip off easy, but it doesn't!  It actually fits snug while on the child!  It is really easy to get on and off for mom, but nearly impossible to pull off by the kids!!  (Isn't that an amazing feature MOMS?)

Easy on for moms, hard to get off for kids!

The Pelican Bib comes in 4 colors, but one size!  I wish they had two sizes for purchase!  I wish I would have had this bib when Sophia was a bit younger and starting to eat all those solids!  Right now, at (almost) 2, it fits, but doesn't cover her midsection as well as I would like.  With that said, the length is great!  You don't need a super long bib to just get in the way!  I find when they are this size, they actually catch the crumbs!
Notice the curvature ...
All in all, this is probably one of my FAVORITE bibs in our collection!!  It is very easy to clean!!  I know this will come in handy in the future as well!! :)  This would also be a perfect gift for a friend or family member expecting .... give the gift of CLEAN, STAIN-FREE clothes!! :)

Old Orchard Cranberry Naturals REVIEW

My love for healthy eating and healthy cooking isn't hidden!  You can find it throughout many of my blog posts, including this one!  I am always in search of sampling new products that do not include two of my arch nemesis ingredients ... HFCS (high fructose corn syrup) and Hydrogenated (and partially-hydrogenated) oils! Sometimes it is nearly impossible in the mainstream food supply!

Old Orchard has come up with a new juice line called Cranberry Naturals.  They sent me two bottles to sample and review!  Before agreeing to it, I wanted to check out the ingredients ... filtered water, cranberry juice from concentrate, cane or beet sugar, pectin, rebiana (Truvia Brand).  What you won't find in their juice ... HFCS, artificial colors, flavors, and preservatives, food dyes, and high calories!

Each 8 oz cup of juice has only 70 calories and 16 g of sugar!  Not too bad for a juice, huh?

Yum, yum, yum!
I really enjoyed the taste of both of these flavors!  I think the Cranberry Raspberry was my favorite!  I have tried quite a few of the drinks that contain rebiana and have not enjoyed any of them!  They all left a HORRIBLE taste in my mouth!  Cranberry Naturals, however, did not do the same!
Oooh, the hint of raspberry mixed with cranberries! Perfect for the holidays!
In conclusion, with any juice, I always recommend drinking it in moderation!!  Water is BEST for the body, but when you need a change, try this out!!  Just remember ... stick to the portion size!! HA!!  (You knew I had to stick that in there!!)

Check them out on the WEB!

Slimy Bookworm REVIEW

As many of you know, my daughter is a BOOK WORM!!  She LOVES to read!!  Yesterday, on the way home from church she was reading a Clifford book to herself, highlighting on all the important points!  Nate and I were in the front seat (silently) cracking up!  She was naming off all the items in the picture that she knew as well as telling the story as she remembered it!  What an incredible feeling knowing your child LOVES to read!!  It is a good thing in this house since we hardly have the television turned on!

I recently came across this awesome kids online bookstore called Slimy Bookworm.  It is so easy to find a book on her website!  She has categorized it into ages and genres!  I clicked on ages 0-3 and it pulled up all of the "best" books for Sophia's age!  It gives an image of the book as well as a description of the contents!  She also has an awesome quick reference site map to help navigate through the website!  One of my favorite categories of her site is the "Just for Parents" section.  It has great topical books to help teach your kids important concepts they need to know!  For example you can find books on dealing with new babies, babysitters, saying good-bye, sleepovers, manners, listening, etc!  What a great resource for parents trying to raise well-behaved children!

You might think to yourself, why should I buy my books here when I can get them from the Big Box Bookstores??

Here are 6 reasons why:

1. It is MOMMY Owned!  (Don't we love to support other women that are mom's just like us!)

2. It's niche is in children's books!

3. Uncluttered selection for busy parents looking for vetted books that your children (or family members) will actually LOVE!  (There are just some books you need in your collection to make it complete!  Slimy Bookworm has them!)

4. The owner is very involved in promoting literacy amongst those who are less fortunate.  She donates books and 10% of the profits to not-for-profit literacy efforts!  Soon she will be working with readtokids.org!

5. She has a incredible interactive BLOG on books and parenting!

6. She has a 45 day return policy vs. the standard 30 at the Big Box Bookstores! (However, you probably won't need to use this feature b/c you will only be ordering amazing books that have been vetted!)

Bola has generously offered promotional coupons for Go Long! Go Green! readers!!

- 15% off with the promo code SLIMY2 at check out!
- FREE SHIPPING on orders over $45
- Gift Wrapping for only $1.99!

The customer service over at Slimy Bookworm is incredible!!  You will be very happy with your purchase!!

Please head on over and check out the website!  A great place for Christmas shopping!!

Hevea Panda Teether Review

I was thrilled to receive my Hevea Panda Teether in the mail a few weeks ago!  Sophia is almost 23 months and cutting those nasty 2 year molars!  She was never a kid to have her hands in her mouth ... UNTIL now! :)  She has been gnawing on her finger for the past few weeks!  I got a good look and saw the 4 corners of all the 2 year molars!  Lucky for us ... right around the holidays, huh?

Thankfully, I found a 100% natural rubber teether, free of PVC, BPA, phthalates, and artificial colors!!  As many of you "green" mama's know, that is extremely hard to do!!  Since it is 100% natural rubber, it is biodegradable. Natural rubber can be broken down physically and/or chemically by microorganisms.

Panda Teether
The minute I handed the teether to Sophia, she stuck it in her mouth and started chewing on the ears with those back teeth!!  She must have chewed on it for at least 30 minutes and was a happy camper by the time she was done!! :)

After washing it, I tried it out ... I thought, chewing on rubber .... that has to taste nasty!!  I was shocked ... it didn't really have a taste at all, which is a major plus!  Also, you couldn't see any of our teeth marks!  One of the other nice things is that it is very hygienic with a one piece design so there are no joints, cracks, or edges!   It is made out of very soft material and is in an ergonomic shape!  It is quite soft and gentle against her face!

On the "green" side of things, it is sustainably produced, including recycled and biodegradable packaging materials!  Sustainable development is a pattern of resource use that aims to meet human needs while preserving the environment so that these needs can also be met for future generations.  Hevea uses soy ink on their packaging. Soy ink is naturally low in VOCs and is made of a renewable resource, using less energy to produce than other inks, and its post-production waste is not hazardous.

InterestinglyHevea’s producer is required to invest a part of his profits in replanting rubber trees and research & development.  Also, in Denmark, they have a great cooperation with the World Wildlife Fund, WWF. They donate 10 DKK for each panda teether sold with a goal to expand this cooperation to other countries.

Wow, mom ... this really works!!
They also make 100% natural rubber pacifiers!  I will for sure be investing in one of those with the next baby!

Overall, I am very impressed with this teether!  I know it will come in handy over the next few years!! :)  I highly recommend any of their products!  They are of excellent quality and will last for a long time!  Plus, the customer service is EXCELLENT!!

BUY IT: Check out this link for where to buy these amazing products!

Please check Hevea out on FB, Twitter,  and on their home page!

It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas ....

... usually I am less than excited to get out Christmas Decorations before Thanksgiving!  Actually, I *typically* refuse to decorate till 12/1!  This year something seems different!  Don't know why, but I am in the Christmas mood extra early!  I was super ambitious today and got down all my decorations from the attic and EVEN put them up!!  Here are a few shots of my hard work!  Thank heavens for super glue ... Sophia and breakable ornaments don't seem to mix well! HA!!

Do you have any favorite holiday decorating traditions?

No Slippy Hair Clippy Review and Giveaway

At last ... the long awaited (thanks for being patient) No Slippy Hair Clippy Review and Giveaway!!  For those of you mom's that have girls, this is the review and giveaway FOR YOU!  Or if you have nieces, granddaughter's, or cousins ... everyone knows a girl that would look adorable with a No Slippy Hair Clippy in their precious hair!!

My first introduction to the No Slippy Hair Clippy company was just 1 year ago when I was complaining to a friend that all barrettes and bows fall out of Sophia's fine hair!  For those of you that have been with us since her birth, you know she had little to no hair ... even at her 1st birthday!  My problem was everyone would tell me how cute my little boy was despite the fact SHE was dressed in PINK!!  I needed an outward display of "GIRLIE-NESS!" (Ha, ha ... if that is even a word!)  My friend, who is always on top of the latest fashion, recommended the No Slippy Hair Clippy's!  She swore they stayed in her daughter's hair all day without falling out!  I thought ... yeah right ... no way!!  I searched their website and found 1 boutique in Carmel (about an hour from my house) that sold them ... so I make the long trip up there and bought one first her 1st birthday picture!  I was SOLD ... they worked in amazing ways and always STAYED in her fine, short hair!!

I was thrilled and honored when I was given the opportunity to review their products!  Their product line has vastly changed and grown over the past year!!!

Here are the products I was sent to review ....

Are you drooling yet over their cuteness?  :)
The picture below is their traditional No Slippy Hair Clippy.  You can see their baby bows® are lined with plush, high-grade velvet so that they have a soft, but secure grip. They stay put in your baby’s hair without hurting her.  Sophia NEVER complains or screams when she pulls them out nowadays!  It is amazing how well they stay!

Dottie Style ...
The next product is the headband!  As you can see in the picture below, there is a strip of velvet under the flower (at the top of the headband) to assure the headband stays in place!  It is amazing that a tiny strip really secures the headband!  The flower is silky soft and not a bit scratchy!  This is my favorite headband that Sophia now owns!  I will be purchasing more of these in the future!

Andrea Ruffle Headband

It takes everything I have now to get Sophia's hair in a ponytail!  Since she is sporting a baby mullet, ponytails aren't the cutest style for her hair right now! HA!  For the review, I put her hair up and then put this clip around the rubber band!  I was shocked by how well it stayed in.  Once again, No Slippy is the industry's leading designer in clips that actually STAY IN!  Notice the velvet strip wrapped around the french clip!!  I can't wait until Sophia has more hair so she can wear this beautiful clip more often!!

Kaia on a French Clip
Clipettes is a new division of No Slippy Hair Clippy, offering modern grosgrain bows and ribbon prints such as multi-dots, colorful strips, animal prints, ladybugs, and more!  They use a special non-slip grip (as seen pictured below) that holds securely, yet won't damage or break hair!  They are value priced starting at $2.95!  An excellent price for those looking to spend a little less on hair clips without sacrificing quality!

Here are a few pictures with my model!  I wish I could have a picture of her with each one of them on, but it is nearly impossible to get a quality picture these days! Ughhhhh!

Sophia's favorite color is purple and she always wants to wear her "pur-pule" headband!
Make sure you check out their very informative website for sales, specials, products, etc!  They always have a featured "Clip of the Month" which gives you a few dollars off!  They have products ranging for ALL ages, baby, toddler, girls, teens, and women!!  The product line is just plain AMAZING!  (Have I stressed this enough?)   They have something for EVERYONE!!

Their motto: "Making the world prettier one girl at a time!"

Finally, No Slippy Hair Clippy® is noted for celebrity sightings. Jessica Alba and daughter Honor, Larry Birkhead and daughter Dannielynn, Salma Hayek and daughter Valentina, and Samantha Harris and daughter Josselyn, Mario Lopez's daughter Gia to name a few, have all adored their baby hair clips and baby gifts. Magazine publications such as People, Us Weekly, Life & Style, and OK Magazine frequently feature celebrities and their children wearing No Slippy products.

Eating breakfast displaying her two clipettes!
Hopefully after reading this review, you understand my LOVE for No Slippy!!  It is so challenging and nearly impossible to find a hair clip that will actually stay in a babies/toddlers hair without falling out!  These clips are worth EVERY penny!!  Believe me, it takes a lot for me to say that!

No Slippy Hair Clippy has most generously offered a $25 Gift Card to their online store to one VERY lucky Go Long! Go Green Reader!!  You can get so many clips/headbands with your prize $$!!

Another guest post ....

I was featured over at Sippy Cups and Cloth Bums for a guest post!  Check it out!!

Check out her blog!  She has lots of great giveaways going on right now!

Bummas Review and Giveaway

Most of my close friends know how often we battle diaper rashes with Sophia!  I just seems liked when we get one to heal up, another springs forth!  We never had this problem until she started eating finger (aka real people) foods at 12 months.  From 12 months to 18 months, we struggled with chronic diarrhea and thus horrible rashes.  I think I have used everything under the sun for these rashes!!  It was almost like her stool burned her bottom!!

During the time I was battling chronic rashes, I did quite a bit of research on how to minimize diaper rashes in a child that is prone to them!  The first piece of advice was "have lots of air time" aka .... naked bum with no dipe! (Just follow them around with carpet cleaner! HA!)  The second piece of advice was to make sure their bum was completely dry before putting on the new diaper!  During quick diaper changes, this step can be overlooked b/c you take off their wet diaper, use a baby wipe, then immediately put on the new diaper!  Their precious skin is still moist/damp!  The moisture increases the risk of another rash!!

I had the awesome chance to review a product that can help you follow through with this step, Bummas!
The Tropical Color Pack
Have you heard of Bummas yet? If not they are a "small soft, luxurious baby-sized cloths" that can be used for:

-To dry the babies bottom after the use of a regular wipe
-To block "surprise squirts" if you have a little boy
-Add a bit of water and they can replace a regular wipe
-Also make great wash clothes in the bathtub!

Bummas are Eco-friendly, frugal and best of all amazing for your babies bottom! They can eliminate many diaper rashes!!

I really enjoyed my pack and have had a great time using cloth wipes with my cloth dipes!! It is a great addition to my stash! I have actually considered purchasing some of these for my friends that are PG right now!

I know it sounds crazy and gross, but what a way to save $$ and the earth!!  (And Sophia's precious bum!)  Cloth wipes are a lot easier than they sound ... also, if you use a homemade wipe solution, you are sure to protect their bum!

Finally, here is some additional information from their website:

Cloth Baby Wipe

  • Eliminates the use of talcum powder.
  • 100% Cotton - Woven Velour Terry Cloth milled in the USA.
  • Variety of color combinations for nursery themes.
  • Handy 5” x 7” size. Won’t pill, shrink, or fade.
  • Durable. Just throw them in the wash and use again.
  • They will last until your little one is out of diapers and beyond!
  • Made in the USA (DON'T YOU JUST LOVE THIS?)

Bummas has generously offered 1 ten pack of wipes to one lucky Go Long! Go Green! Reader!!

Gluten-Free Pumpkin Pancakes

As most of you know, I have a passion for cooking and eating healthy!  We strive to eat whole, natural, and raw foods as much as possible!  I am always looking for ways to incorporate healthy (gluten-free) grains in our foods that have far more rich nutritional profiles compared to brown rice flour.

I found this recipe for homemade pumpkin pancakes and decided to get a little creative!!  Instead of whole-wheat and all-purpose flour, I ground up some fresh buckwheat and millet flour.  I didn't have any fresh pumpkin on hand (I had just used up my 8 cups of fresh pumpkin the week before), so I substituted pureed sweet potatoes!  (You couldn't tell)!  You might be thinking to yourself, Buckwheat and Millet?  What in the world are those????  Well, I did a little research to share with you all the benefits of these amazing grains (seeds)!

Feel free to click on this image to make the recipe larger and easier to read!

Buckwheat actually isn’t a cereal grain (like many think), but it is a fruit seed that is related to rhubarb and sorrel.  It is also gluten free!

Health Benefits of Buckwheat Flour
- Associated with a lower LDL and higher HDL
- High in flavonoids (phytonutrients that protect against disease)
- Help maintain blood flow, keep platelets from clotting excessively
- Protect LDL from free radical oxidation into potentially harmful cholesterol oxides
- Super high in magnesium, manganese, fiber (4.5 gm in 1 cup), and tryptophan
- Help with blood sugar control
- Help to avoid gallstones

Millet is also another gluten free option.  It is technically a seed and not a grain.  It is a common staple food in Africa.

Health Benefits of Millet
- Excellent source of magnesium (which can reduce serverity of asthma and decrease freq of Migraine HA’s, decrease BP.  1 C = 26.4% of your daily value for magnesium)
- High in phosphorus (which plays a role in the structure of every cell in the body)
- Linked to lower risk of heart disease and certain cancers
- Help prevent gallstones
- Help with blood sugar control

The buckwheat is at the back of the eggs on the left, the millet to the right of the buckwheat!

I know a lot of people are scared to use different grains!  It can be very intimidating!! Why not use just good old fashioned flour?  Well, to be honest, there is hardly any nutritional value to it!  Isn't it a good challenge to find grains that will benefit your family and taste yummy?  Once you get all of the other ingredients added in, you can't even taste the difference!  You can find buckwheat and millet (and tons of other grains) at health food stores.  If you buy in bulk, it is so much cheaper!!!

To turn the buckwheat groats and millet seeds into flour, just measure out the appropriate amount, then put them in a coffee grinder (food processor)!  Boom ... easy as that!!

Yummy!!  My next skill will be making Elmo Pancakes! HA!!

Our favorite and healthiest toppings for pancakes!

Do you have any favorite, "health-ified" recipes?  Please share!!

PS> One recipe note ... it does suggest separating the eggs and whipping the egg whites till peaks form ... this makes the pancakes SUPER light and fluffy!  You would be amazed at the difference.  A small extra step with huge benefits!

Tom's of Maine's

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Tom's of Maine. All opinions are 100% mine.

Over the past 6 months or so, I have been looking more intently at the ingredients in household items, toothpaste being one of them. I have been on the lookout for a natural toothpaste with fluoride, yet none of those unneeded “junk” ingredients!  I found one at Trader Joes’ that we liked, but after using it for a few months, I felt like it didn’t keep my breath fresh.  I was back to the drawing board … UNTIL I found Tom's Of Maine!
Tom's Of Maine is a leading natural products company focused on oral and personal care. For 40 years, Tom’s has been committed to supporting people, communities and the planet.   They have a product called “Wicked Fresh!™ Toothpaste” that gives you cavity protection and uses powerful natural flavor oils and a patent-pending botanical extract to provide long-lasting fresh breath.
The ingredients Tom’s of Maine use are of the highest quality, sourced in nature and subject to minimal processing.  They believe in sustainable farming practices, and reject animal testing, making it their goal to make the most effective products for you without resorting to anything artificial.  Check out this link for a list of all their ingredients and their use in the product!  Also, check out this link with the ingredients they do not use in their products!
They also have a Wicked Fresh!™ Mouthwash that helps stop bad breath without the burn. Their refreshing mint flavors leave your whole mouth feeling clean.   Here is a link with all of their ingredients in the mouthwash – no junk!!
Do you have any Wicked Fresh moments?  I know we had a Wicked Fresh Moment biking down Copper Mountain in Colorado!  Wow, talk about a thrill!!
Tom’s of Maine has a great contest going on right now online!  Share your own Wicked Fresh moments for a chance to win Wicked Fresh!™ Prizes (including a $500 Target Gift Card!)!  Check out this That's Wicked Fresh contest page for details of how to enter!

Boudreaux's Butt Paste

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Boudreaux's Butt Paste. All opinions are 100% mine.

Boudreaux's Butt Paste, specifically the All-Natural one in green box, is one of our favorite diaper rash creams.  I was first informed of how amazing this product was by one of my good “mom” friends!  She told me it was a “must” item to put on the registry!   I later found out that Boudreaux's Butt Paste® was specifically formulated by a pharmacist with direction from a respected pediatrician to provide effective diaper rash care.  Of course, since pharmacy is my profession, I immediately respected the product and the creator!!
Since Sophia’s bum is super sensitive, the All-natural formulation seems to work best for our family and it comes in a 4-0oz tube!  If you are trying the regular Boudreaux’s formulation (16% Zinc Oxide and Peruvian Balsam), it conveniently comes in multiple sizes – 1oz, 2oz, 3oz, 4oz, and 16oz.  The tubes have an easy to use flip top cap!  Also, there are convenient travel size containers, perfect for the diaper bag! The great thing about Boudreaux’s is that it goes on and cleans off easily!  A must for a mom in a hurry!!  What mom isn’t in a hurry at some point?
My mom even has her own All-natural tube at her house for when Sophia goes to stay at Mimi and Papa’s!!  It is a skin protectant, which makes it perfect to treat diaper rash and to soothe irritated skin!
If you think you might like to try Boudreaux, head over to their site because they'll gladly send you a sample to try for yourself!  I think you might like it- the scent is mild and fairly neutral, and I find its effective!
Boudreaux's has been featured in all kinds of media, including:
- Oprah Show
- Tonight Show
- Today Show
- People Magazine
- While You Were Out TLC.
I recommend Boudreaux's Butt Paste to friends and family, although I'm not always able to use most diaper creams because they aren’t cloth-diaper friendly.  When I need to use diaper rash cream, I put a fleece strip  inside my cloth diaper, apply cream, and then I don’t have to use disposable diapers.

Two Cute Boutique Review and Givewaway

A few months ago, I won a 20% off coupon from another blog for any product over at Two Cute Boutique!  I quickly headed over to her FB site and Etsy site to look through her products!!  I was amazed at all the selection, hats to booties to baby blankets to photography props!! WOW! I was also very impressed with all of the professional newborn pictures sporting her products!  I was sold!!

Since we are working with limited funds, I needed to purchase 1 piece that would match the majority of her winter clothes.  I contacted Jennifer and shared some of my thoughts and ideas!  (You might think I am crazy) But I laid out all of Sophia's outfits for the winter and took a picture.  I emailed this to Jennifer and she came up with a color combination that would match 80% of the outfits!  I was thrilled with the fact she was so generous and wanted to work with me in finding the best product!!

Here are a few pictures from her Etsy site.  As you can see, Jennifer is extremely talented and creative!  Every newborn photographer should check out her items for props!!

Blue and Brown Stocking Cap and Diaper cover (for newborn photo shoot)
Can't you just see you newborn baby boy wearing this adorable piece?

Personalized Baby Blankets

Isn't she adorable?  Once I saw this picture, I knew Sophia would look
adorable in any one of her products!  Our girls almost could be twins!

So, is everyone anxious to see what I ended up with?  I will let my little "model" display Jennifer's work of art!

The nice thing is that the headband can be worn alone as it is very decorative!!  Also, the bow (on an alligator clip) can also be a stand alone piece!  I love the fact I received 3 products in 1!!!

You can purchase any item over at Jennifers Etsy site.  She also does customer orders! So head over and order away!
